Michael Raines qualified MB ChB in Sheffield 1980.
His ophthalmic training took him around the country and included Units in Sheffield, Windsor, Manchester and Birmingham.
He gained the Diploma in Ophthalmology in 1984.
He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS) in 1985.
In 1989 he was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth).
He was appointed a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to Victoria Hospital Blackpool in 1991.
In Blackpool he was one of the first surgeons in the country to introduce regular phaco emulsification cataract surgery that revolutionised the cataract procedure.
Mr Raines has performed many thousands of successful cataract operations with unrivalled results.
He also set up the Oculo-Plastic Service for the Fylde Coast area.
Mr Raines was trained in the traditional methods and is able to perform most types of surgeries although he now specialises in cataract, oculo-plastic, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
In 2012 he left the National Health Service and now solely practices privately.
Mr Shreyas Raj is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital. He provides comprehensive ophthalmology care with a special interest in Oculoplastic surgery and cataract surgery with premium lens implants. He is an experienced surgeon having performed a few thousand successful cataract surgeries. He has been involved in teaching and training specialist trainees, junior doctors, medical students, nursing staff and Optometrists.
He has trained and qualified in India as well as the UK with a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in1998. He has gained previous experience in Germany and USA as well.
Mr Raj has been involved in charity eye care services in India for urban poor as well as rural communities in association with Lions Club and remains committed to charity work in poor and developing countries.
He likes to travel and practices Yoga and meditation for holistic wellbeing. He likes to spend time with family and listen to music.
